Recommended for brides, soon to be brides and just married couples. Jan 18, Kristin rated it liked it. While this wouldn't be my first choice in Chicken Soup books, reading the stories of new love and early wedded bliss gives me hope that perhaps one day I will be a bride, having found the man of my dreams. Some of the stories reminded me of my grandparents' marriage, which lasted 67 years before old age took them from us within 6 months of each other, while others reminded me of my parents, married just under 35 when the 'in sickness and in health' and 'til death do us part' lines in the wedding While this wouldn't be my first choice in Chicken Soup books, reading the stories of new love and early wedded bliss gives me hope that perhaps one day I will be a bride, having found the man of my dreams.
Some of the stories reminded me of my grandparents' marriage, which lasted 67 years before old age took them from us within 6 months of each other, while others reminded me of my parents, married just under 35 when the 'in sickness and in health' and 'til death do us part' lines in the wedding vows were put to the test as my father cared for my mother during her battle with terminal cancer, losing her just 2 months after my grandmother and 6.
It is those two long marriages, and stories like in this book that keep me from getting too down about still being single at 32, but I couldn't help feeling jealousy at the young lovers who knew they were soulmates as high school or college sweethearts.
I would have liked a few stories I could identify with, about women who believe that good things come to those who wait, even if the wait feels endless and eventually do find Mr. Also, as the Chicken Soup books are a faith-based line, I wouldn't recommend this as a gift to a bride who is taking another bride, or a pair of grooms with no bride involved, as they would likely notice the absence of other same-sex couples in the stories, although the message of love can still be universal and most of the stories are not emphatically Christian.
Jul 28, Lisa added it. I bought it four days ago- Thursday, and have hardly been able to put it down since. I've already recommended it to an engaged friend, and will definitely recommend it to others. Heck, I might even have my fiance read it, since several of the stories are written from the groom's perspective, as well as fathers of the groom, mothers of the groom, fathers and mothers of the bride, and even close friends.
Some of the stories have made me laugh, some have made me cry, several have made me think and consider what I'd do in certain circumstances, if I lost someone close to me, a member of my wedding party, etc. Each short story was filled with a mixture of love, hope, wisdom and expectation.
Some brides were in their first bloom of love, others were receiving a precious second chance. Apr 28, Lynai rated it really liked it Shelves: I am an anxious bride-to-be. Experience tells me that my skin allergies always enjoy making a show whenever I am stressed out.

Rebecca saw the flowers on the table near the corner of the room; they were a brilliant shade of red, clustered with simple elegance.
Rebecca admired Annes strength. Anne stood poised in white lace and satin flowing down to the bottom of her train. Confidence glowed upon her face.
Anne had finally found her hero. But not all heroes are invincible.
Hers was dying. That didnt seem to matter now, though.
Anne and Stathis were prefect for each other. They complemented each other like a pair of ripped jeans and old comfy sneakersnot perfect, but well matched when worn together. Jointly, they created a kind of harmony. He slept more hours out of the day than most normal people. He was so tired from all the medications he was taking, simply to ease the pain his illness rendered upon him.
When he was tired, Anne tucked him in. When he was sick, Anne held his hand, telling him that everything would be all right. When he was stressed, Anne would make him laugh, bringing warmth to his face. When his feet swelled up and he couldnt put on his shoes alone, Anne reached down, grabbing them to help him. Every hospital visit and doctors appointment, every arrangement that needed scheduling, she was right there, right by his side loving him. They didnt go out much anymore.
But neither were they waiting for him to die. They considered each precious moment that remained a miracle. Rebecca worried for Annes sanity when she and Stathis would be separated by death. What would Anne do? Rebecca swallowed the lump in her throat just thinking about it. Then Anne handed her a card. Rebecca opened it. Inside hung a long golden chain, attached to it was half a golden heart.
The card read: Inside this card you will find one piece of my heart. I want you to know when youre not with me, I feel torn apart. I have found comfort and peace in your arms, loving you this past year. I am not saddened and my heart is content in knowing the end is growing near.
Half of my heart belongs to me. The other half belongs to you.
